FT 2000

The first time I`ve seen the FT 2000 with my own eyes was during the Dayton 2006 show. Already when I was surtain, and still I am, that this will be a good-seller for a decade

I received my FT-2000 in August 2006, attached with the seriell number xxxx1xxx16.

Of course it is a risk to have a very early production version - but you never know untill you try.

I want to give you a few more details about the FT-2000, that I`ve collected from different sources worldwide. I did not test all this modifications with my own radio. So, be carefull, switch on your brain before testing any mod!

The service manual is now ready for download from several sources i.e. mods.dk or foxtango.org

FT-2000 Comprehensive EQ Settings

Posted by: "John Occhipinti"

Sat Feb 17, 2007 5:36 pm (PST)

Congratulations to the new FT-2000 users who are requesting a quick setup for optimum performance on SSB.
These are the initial basic settings used for ESSB (Enhanced Audio), for those who want broadcast quality emanating from their FT-2000.

REVISED SETTINGS: January 1, 2007
Here are my REGULAR MENU settings for the FT-2000.
Menu 083 at 3000 (Wide Band Setting)
Menu 123 at 100 (Low Freq.)
Menu 126 at 1500 (Mid Freq.)
Menu 129 at 3200 (High Freq.)
Menu 124 at 5
Menu 125 at 5
Menu 127 at 4
Menu 128 at 3
Menu 130 at 3
Menu 131 at 1

Here are the separate settings when using the Parametric Microphone Equalizer. These settings are engaged when using the Speech Processor in the FT-2000 .
Note: With any outboard EQ audio gear, this is not recommended. I never use the speech processor in the radio, because I always use outboard audio gear.

Here is a quick setup for the FT-2000:
Put mic (audio) into #15 in rear using an RCA plug. Then Menu 082 is set on "front"
(this enables you to achieve 50 hz to 3.5 kHz on transmit).
Put the WIDTH control all the way to the right (clockwise) and put the SHIFT in the center. The WIDTH meter will have all the green LED's lit and this enables you to receive out to 4 kHz.
Menu 061 Change it from "ofset" to "dir" (this is to keep the Frequency readout the same when you change from USB to LSB).
Menu 144 Change from "diS" to "EnA" ( this enables you to use the LINEAR AMP)!
Linear RCA plug goes into #20 in rear.
Record mini plug goes into #22 in rear (AF OUT).
Power Master Watt/SWR Meter: 13.8 vdc goes into #21 in the rear.
These are the most important settings to start with.

If using the Behringer Ultra Curve 2496, these are the basic settings:
Use 60 hZ at +15, 80 hZ at -10, 100 hZ at -10, 160 hZ at -15, 315 hZ at -10,
400 hZ at -10, 500 hZ at -10, 800 hZ at -5, 1K at +10, 1.6K at +10, 3.2K at +12. You can put all the Bandwidths at 1.

If using the W2IHY 8 Band EQ and the EQ Plus, these are the basic settings:
8 Band EQ:
50 +12
100 +6
200 0
400 -4
800 -16
1600 +6
2400 +10
3200 +12

EQ Plus:
Bass 3 o'clock
Treble 2 o'clock
Compressor 12 o'clock
DE Level 2 o'clock
Impedence 200 (down position)
Effects:
Delay Fully Counterclockwise
Effects Level 10 o'clock
Effects Switch Up

Use good headphones and monitor yourself. As you can see, I do use the internal EQ on the FT-2000 but I do NOT use the Processor. Contact me for an "on the air" QSO, recording and graphing of your audio and I will email you both the mp3 recording and the SpectraPlus graph of your audio. Thank you.

Firmware update

Please read this instruction in advance

MARS Mod by W4CLM

Please read this documentation

Firmware upgrade

I just finished (Feb25 2007) the firmware upgrade as mentioned in the YAESU documentation. If you follow the document step by step, no problem. Two remarks from my side:

I did it via the dismountet foot, used a wooden toothpick to switch the small smd switch. To illuminate the “cave” I used a white LED with two, thin leads and placed them via the hole inside the Ft 2000 just to bring some light inside.

DMU 2000 installation

Everything works fine as long as you follow the manual. I will include some pictures to give you an impression hoa the system looks:
